"
Just after writing my original vent, guess who was sitting in the
office across from mine...a very pregnant formula rep, who states she of
course will be breastfeeding...."
I strongly suspect whe will also supplement rather freely. After all, it is "the next best thing" according to all she has been taught. I had the experience of working with the wife of a rep for 2 of her babies. This was routine inpatient visits as she never did contact me afterwards. I simply gave her the same info I give all new moms. I was working as floor nurse at the time, so when it went time for her to go home, I jokingly said I assumed she would want the gift bag from her husband's competitor. He did not catch that I was joking, however and became qite upset. I couldn't help but chuckle over that.
The problem was that while I had made it a point to avoid any interaction with any of the reps when they would show up on the floor, this now gave him an excuse to draw me aside to show pictures of the baby. I really felt like I had to measure my words very carefully lest he take anything I might say as "My Lactation Consultant says......" and subsequently use that in any of his pitches.
