While I agree that IBCLC's should oversee anyone who is trying to become
some sort of LC I also believe that there are very qualified people who do
not sit for the test. I have done my CLE classes through UCLA and am
working on my IBCLC, however I learned a lot of quality information through
an LC who also was a PNP specializing in feeding. While this situation is
rare, I do not think that it should ever be stated that only an IBCLC can
oversee hours. This would be a disservice to those who lack IBCLC's in
their area, or have access like I was so lucky to have to those who do not
wish to sit for the test but are more than qualified to teach.
