I read the abstract of an article titled Trial of Labor after Cesarean in CCC Corner--Maternal Child Health for American Indians and Alaska Natives (unable to access the entire article). Basically, it was a comparison of maternal and fetal outcomes of VBACs vs repeat c/s. Interestingly (amazingly?) they found "no difference in major or minor maternal morbidity, and no serious neonatal morbidity". HELLO! What about maternal PAIN after a c/s? How did that effect the initiation and the early days of breastfeeding? And how did (potential) lack of early and frequent breastfeeding affect the infants? Feeding methods and maternal pain meds were not mentioned. I personally think a baby delivered by c/s needs a lot of support for successful breastfeeding in those first few days. I wonder if breastfeeding (or lack thereof) would be considered in an assessment of neonatal morbidity. Hmm...I sure hope so!
