I am sorry if this has been discussed but I have no time these days. My very
best friend was diagnosed with Non Hodgkins Lymphoma Bcell, VERY aggresive,
ugly, extremely fast growing. The surgery to explore what the CAT scans
weren't clear on occured two weeks ago and the final prognosis was just this Monday.
Today she starts the big guns chemo. Her other best friend has an 8 week
old baby whom she is breastfeeding. (By the way he is AWESOME. Gained 5 pounds
in 7 weeks!). The oncologist told her she can not be around babies because
they are germy. We told him "but" he is totally breastfed and he is home with
mom. He said the breastfeeding didn't matter he still harbors germs that
could be difficult for her. He did say don't hold the baby the first two days
after the chemo and also she shouldn't hug and be touching the baby's mother the
first 2 days since she is breastfeeding.
Just wanted to throw this out on Lactnet. We know he isn't the germy formula
fed baby that is for sure. I told the baby's mama to just get her life
errands caught up on chemo days and I will be there for our friend more on those
days.
Time to go "walk" my friend and help her look less like a patient this AM
before this chemo gets started today. Luckily this is the hospital I work in.
She is also a co-worker so she has tons of love and support around her. We
have healing touch nurses, lots of other cancer survivors who give her strength.
Please reply to my private email as I may miss the responses on Lactnet. I
barely have time to breath these days.
Thanks!
Pamela A. Hendrix, BA, RN, IBCLC, RLC
