I haven't posted to the Lactnet for quite a while so I will re-introduce
myself. I am a mother of 5, a registered nurse, midwife, neonatal nurse and
IBCLC. I currently work in a Special Care Nursery and have a passion for
encouraging and supporting breastfeeding but also to ensure that all
information given is evidence based.
In the light of the American Academy of Pediatrics statement supporting
pacifier use once breastfeeding has been established, I am interested in
accessing evidence based statements that support or refute this paper and
does anyone know any web addresses I can access to get this information. It
is especially significant for babies in Special Care Nurseries, who are
often premature, and therefore at a significantly higher risk of SIDS. Many
of these babies have been offered pacifiers for non-nutitive sucking (as
supported by a Cochrane databases review) and have become used to dummies.
Regards
Marian RIgney
