I learned from the other nurses at work last night that our Neonatologist "Head Honcho" expects ALL "babies in their bassinets, on their backs with pacifiers in their mouths."
These were his exact words at a staff meeting the other day.  All the nurses fully understood this to prevent SIDS without question, simply because this doc said so.  Apparently, he made a point to drop by our nurses staff meeting to make this important announcement.  I was not at that meeting.
 
I pointed out that, in fact, the AAP was recommending pacifiers only after breastfeeding was established- not in the first 1-2 days in hospital!!!
 
and then I just screamed inside my head at the "nipple nazi" discussion that followed.
 
This doc is the "Head" pediatrician at my facility.  I am a lowly nurse.  Any ideas on how to help educate my coworkers and not get fired?
