I am just now reading the book "French Women Don't Get Fat" by Mireille 
Guiliano.  She basically says the same things that have been discussed 
here -- food is more social than in the US, eating for pleasure and 
savoring the experience, more exercise in daily life, portion control, 
etc.  I'm enjoying the book as I love traveling and eating in France!
