Hello,
My name is Jeanne Schneider and I am an RN IBCLC at Evergreen Hospital in
Kirkland Washington. I've lurked for a long time, this is my first posting.
Jennifer asks"once you are Baby Friendly, then what"? As the first Baby
Friendly Hospital in the United States, we have certainly had our share of
struggles to maintain the high standards practiced at the time of our
certification. The RN and IBCLC staff work so hard, one family at a time, to maintain
those standards. The ten steps provide the framework for a standard of care that
is so needed.
Is the BFHI perfect? No. But I believe it is the best thing we have going to
improve the care of mothers and babies in American hospitals. For those of
you who are working towards certificates of intent, keep going. For those of
you working in a BFH, keep going. It is easy to get discouraged. I acknowledge
every single one of you who strive to make this work for the families you
care for.
Jeannie Schneider
