Subject: Lactnet question
A former client of ours recently called our clinic 2 and one half years after weaning her baby with concerns of recurrent mastitis. She has given permission to post her story. Her breasts are very large and pendulous ( actually extending below her waist.) I recall at the time, that we had tried to get a special bra made that would give her more support as she had a history of frequent mastitis with her first baby. She has been wanting to have breast reduction surgery now because her family is complete and the surgeon is hesitant because of her recent bouts with mastitis. She can still hand express milk in the shower and does not want to use a pump ( understandably) to stimulate more production. She has had prolactin levels done which are normal. Ultrasound of the breast was also unremarkable. She is currently on Effexor for PPD . Just wondering if anyone else has had any experience with this. I wonder if she may be getting blocked ducts from the way she is lying in bed putting too much pressure on some part of her very pendulous tissue. Any thoughts or suggestions welcome. Is she at any more risk for the breast reduction surgery if she does not treat with antibiotics.
