Deborah, you may hear from others but I will add my comments too.
PLEASE DON'T TEST THE MOTHER'S MILK. Yes, I was shouting. A baby who is
dehydrated will have an elevated sodium. A mother's colostrum has a higher
sodium level than mature milk. A mother who's production is down, as in
weaning, will have an elevated sodium. Mom's milk sodium level is not the problem
to the baby.
The baby needs to feed more, take in more volume and mom needs to push up
her milk supply. All this can be achieved without ever needing to test a
mother's milk.
