The first thing I am thinking is severe allergy or sensitivity to something
in mom's diet, likely dairy. It sounds things started to be troublesome once
formula was started for high bilirubin levels. Probably was cow's milk
formula. The baby later lost weight and supps were again started but baby
didn't gain. Then the formula was switched (to soy I presume?) and baby
gained.
It seems baby was sensitized and now reacts to any dairy in mom's diet and
maybe even beef products. This baby *may* need a short period on true
hypoallergenic formula like neocate (I believe) or dairy-free donor milk
(even better) while mom pumps and throws out her milk until she is dairy
free (maybe a week?). I realize this is drastic and would usually recommend
continued bf while mother clears her diet, but sounds like this is pretty
severe.
I was also thinking possible galactosemia (rare) but I think it would have
presented in the very early days, which this didn't.
This mom will need alot of help with her diet if you go this route. I would
suggest total cow products elimination, not just dairy.
