Oh my goodness, I can't believe they're still doing that!  After the 1st 
message, I was going to write, but figured that 18 yrs (when I had my 
last baby in Philly) was too long.  My HMO had the visiting nurse come 
on days 2 and 4 postpartum.  She did the testing in my home (PKU).  They 
also gave me the services of a "homemaker" for 8 hours -- I had her come 
twice, 4 hrs each.  All this for going home "early" -- the morning after 
the birth.  My only complaint at that time was that the visiting nurse 
knew nothing about breastfeeding, and my baby had major sucking problems 
(thank you to my wonderful private IBCLC who came on day 3).
