I just attended the Academy of Breastfeeding Medicine Conference in
Denver at the end of October and cup feeding was presented as the way we
should supplement, especially with C/S moms. The presentation was well
referenced and evidenced based. Cup feeding is the only form of
supplementation that is truly baby led (meaning the baby doesn't have to
eat if they don't want to), allowing them to protect their airway. It
would be interesting to see the evidence for the presentation in Reno.

Subject: Cupfeeding

Just got told by my boss (who attended an ob conference in Reno) that
a nurse practitioner from NICU spoke about cupfeeding newborns. The
nurse is also an LC. She said her latest research states cupfeeding is
not safe for any babies, ever. I have not heard this. I admit I
haven't been to a conference in one year....but, I am not aware of this
sweeping admonition....she said there is no way you can know if it will
go into the gullet or not.

Any docs out there who can comment on this, or LC's? Please email me
privately if you wish. Thanks.
