I don't understand the conclusions of this study, from reading this
press release.
From the evidence that is given in this text it is risky to take an
unwell infant in the parental bed for the first time - unaccustomed
and uninformed parent, probably unfit bed, unwell child. This is
nothing new, is it?

From what the Reuters information says, I would conclude it is
important to inform ALL parents about safe co-sleeping. Usefull for
those who practice it every night, of vital importance to those who
do it when in despair for the first time because they feel they won't
get any sleep otherwise.
From the abstract I understand sofa-sleepers were included in the bed-
sharing population... Well, that's similar to including babies in a
cot that doesn't fit any safety standard in the 'normal' not bed-
sharing infants.
Too bad they don't have the full article online... I would love to
read it to see if they give more insight in the questions that I
have.
