I have one more tidbit about nursing mice after some years raising them. I had one male and we know he was a male...his nickname was bigballs. He loved to nurture the new babies. He was the only male I could leave with the new ones. Anyway when mom needed a break, he would lie down and let them all snuggle up to him as if they were nursing. If you didn't now better you would be quite certain they were nursing. He would not fight with the other males and was happiest "helping" with the pinkies. It was a wonderful learning experience for our nursing family if only they didn't smell so much, ugh.

And I have really appreciated the discussion on hand expression. It has been so helpful.
