Dear Friends:
Today at the hospital, a baby had a giant somatoemtional release. He had
been nursing well; was already having transitional stools by day 2! He went
s2s, and was positioned beautifully to latch if he wanted. He decided to tell
his story instead, and raged and shrieked for a half-hour. He has a lot to
say; the circumcision was botched and he has a scab on his penis.
The mother has fabulous understanding about breastfeeding; her sisters
all do it, her mom did it. During this raging, when he would root and wail
then rest, I asked her what she would have done if he had raged like this at
home. She said, "Give him a bottle."
Exactly! That's why mothers go home with that lovely black bag with free
samples. I could see the light bulb go on in her head; she told me that she
could see that his wailing had nothing to do with breastfeeding.
What a lucky baby to have such a smart mother with such a support
network.
warmly,
