In the NICU setting it is common practice to mix formula with breastmilk for 
fortified breastmilk if it is determined that the infant needs additional 
calories or human milk fortifier. I don't believe anyone has ever studied the 
effect of mixing and what actually comes out of the tube or bottle. One of our 
physicians, who is also a dietician, has talked about doing a mixing study but it 
is still in the planning stages.
