No, I am not referring to formula companies. It's worse. Here is what I
have just sent to Medela. If any of you feel the same way, or differently,
I urge you to let Medela know.

"I have just received the latest issue of 'Birth' with the Medela ad on the
back cover. It puts me right off. Why? Because I object to the term
'Natural Expression' with a TRADEMARK, no less, to refer to pump technology.
'Natural expression' is how the baby gets milk out of the breast, or have
you forgotten? A pump may be efficient and helpful, but it is never
'natural'.
What really concerns me is the way your text is analogous to the text used
by formula companies to describe their product as 'more like breastmilk'.
"Symphony. More like a baby." More like a baby than what? The baby
herself? You even fail to note that the pump was originally meant for
situations when the baby CAN'T breastfeed, and make it sound as though the
mother can save time (to use for something other than being with her baby?)
if she uses your machine to express her milk 'naturally' rather than just
breastfeeding the baby (unnaturally?).
I really like Medela pumps and actually, where I live they are about the
only thing going, but I am more and more uncomfortable with your marketing
language. I want to let you know, because I have the impression you do care
what professionals working in breastfeeding think. I am sharing this letter
with about 2500 of my colleagues on Lactnet as well."
