Hmmm the issue of speaking or not in an environment when non WHO code
compliant companies are being advertised is an interesting issue. I think
that when the advertising is direct to consumers that it is a little
different to professionals (ie it's a bigger issue) and I wonder whether it
makes a difference if the speaker makes a disclaimer??
I have a personal interest in this. I speak at quite a few conferences and
the issue of advertising/sponsorship by non-code compliant companies has not
yet come up however, I am speaking at a conference in a month of so at which
I am pretty sure there is a high chance of there being
sponsorship/advertising by infant formula manufacturers (mainly spruiking
their toddler formulas is my guess). I do not have the information on
sponsorship available (and this would not affect my decision to speak there
or no) but I would like to prepare a disclaimer statement to inform listener
that my appearance does not imply endorsement of the advertised products.
Has anyone seen this done before??? What did the speaker say??
