Pat quoted:
<<Away in a manger no crib for a bed...
The little Lord Jesus asleep in the hay.">>
I'm sure he was only there while Mary went to the bathroom, and Joseph was
off making her a Vegmite sandwich.
I'm quite certain that Jesus was born in a manger, and there he stayed with
Mary and Joseph. Mangers are BIG deals, not the little shrimpy things you
see in modern creche scenes. I'm quite certain Mary didn't give birth on the
stable floor, but in a manger. And I'm also quite certain that the best
midwife Bethlehem had to offer was there to assist, along with her mother, a
couple of sisters, and the innkeeper's wife.
And he woke up, but didn't cry because he was in the manger, snuggled at
Mary's breast.
Y'gotta see the whole picture....
We do have a "manger" scene in our house. The "manger" is in the attic of
the stable, and Jesus is held in Mary's arms where he belongs. When I get
really talented I'm going to make a teeny tiny sling for him because if the
table where the stable is gets bumped, Jesus has a tendency to fall out of her
arms.
Isn't any mother I know that would spend her time with her arms in the air
in any case. She'd be way too busy hushing the lowing cattle while the
innkeeper's wife would be apologizing for the poor quarters and sweeping out the
stable.

rendition of the Christmas birth story....all very theologically sound, I'll have
you know.
