Wrote about Hurricane Rita

"The March of Dimes has issued a press release with information for Pregnant
and Breastfeeding mothers. The breastfeeding info is awful:

Breastfeeding (source: La Leche League International)"

Jodine - I find it hard to believe that the info was taken verbatim from
LLLI. You can check the info I posted after Katrina; it was from LLLI:
"When an Emergency Strikes, Breastfeeding Can Save Lives."

I agree; the MODs press release is awful.

The MODs would have to show me the original LLLI material it supposedly is
quoting. Its press release sounds more like what some of the MOD
administrators give as their personal opinion. Very few that I have met or
heard speak about BF know much about it; actually, I have met only one at
the White Plains facility (which is in Westchester County) who was
well-informed about and an advocate of BF.

There may be others but not in the groups I have had contact with when the
topic of BF is part of a presentation. When I spoke on BF basics to their
staff, I got a lot of negative reactions on the normal frequency and
duration of feedings, and even more on BF for over a few months. They
became very defensive when I touched on the subject of avoiding drugs during
labor/birth (yet they are all about preventing birth defects); and formula
hazards really got a strong negative reaction from them. Only the advocate
I mentioned above supported my talk and stated that my topics needed to be
addressed. So their press release does not surprise me but I think they
need to be careful in making certain claims about LLLI information. I
wonder if LLLI is aware of this.
