Linda,

You are absolutely right, and I am not advocating that IBLCE gets out there
and creates university programs. Perhaps I failed to make myself clear on that.

And, I should know better in assuming that everyone knows the difference
between ILCA and IBLCE and what each organization does; indeed that they are two
separate organizations. Goodness knows how many times I have had to explain
this.

ILCA is the lactation consultant's professional association. It is their
responsibility to lobby for us, to represent our concerns, to develop agendas for
the advancement of our profession, etc.

IBLCE serves solely as the certification body, and it would not be "kosher"
for it to design courses, sell study materials, or engage in any other
activities that would be linked to giving individuals an 'advantage' in taking the
exam.

I am continually surprised by people who tell me they've never visited either
website. They are both pretty interesting. www.ilca.org and www.iblce.org.

As for ILEAC, I can't say that I am convinced this 'accrediting body' is what
the lactation profession needs. In essence, I feel it amounts to the blessed
blessing the blessed. Both the accreditors and the accreditees are in the
business. I admit that I have not researched this topic, and don't know much of
the history, but the concept of former and current educators accrediting the
courses of current educators makes me uncomfortable. Guess I'll have to check
the ILCA website for more information on ILEAC.

Thanks for your input. As always, your institutional knowledge is priceless.

Barbara
