Excuse me if I have posted this before. Several years ago there was a study
out of Japan. It mentioned babies who needed an extraordinary amount of
sucking and finding them to have a mid-line defect. On a personal note, a
granddaughter was such a baby. She was found to have a large hole in her
heart at the age of 13 years. We all recall how chubby she was as a
breastfed baby and how necessary a pacifier was to keep her from crying when
her mother couldn't nurse her another minute. She sucked continuously. Might
she have been a SIDS babies if her needs had not been met? We wonder.
