I wonder if he's having tonic seizures? The temporal relationship of all
the parts of the behavior might shed light on that...does he cry before,
during or after the arching back? Does mom have access to a neurologist
to see if there is something going on, and to a physical therapist to
check out his muscle tone?
I just read a scary abstract (trying to get hold of the entire paper)
that related excessive fussing (but not crying) during infancy with
later risk of sensory processing disorders.
