If you look at chart for ages of SIDS, it's not high until 1 month (which
means they don't need it day one, and of course if they have a real
nipple....) but then by 7 months the rate is quite low. Not to encourage
the paci, but it's likely safe enough (just my conjecture) to drop it by
then. Maybe daytime & monitored sleep practice to become more accustomed to
no paci.
