Dear wise friends,
I find myself in the middle of a discussion on how many women that can conceive and give birth really and untreatable are not able to lactate at all or at a very low level only. This will include inborn errors like insufficient glandular potency, and breasttrauma (due to accidents or whatever type of breastsurgery), and perhaps very severe psychological issues. I heard a BF volunteer tell that a LC told her that that number will probably be 5-10%. I think that is unrealistic high (mind you, I talk the *really* untreatable hindrances, not the hard to treat or mostly mismanaged ones).
Has there ever been some real study on this. Or even some well-educated guesswork? Or deductive maths? Anything? BTW: cosmetic surgery has by far not reached American levels out here, uptill now.
Warmly,
Gonneke,
Dutch IBCLC, living in Germany, teaching in Belgium
