Hi there wise women, I wanted some thoughts on a situation. I have been working with a mom since her babe was born 4 months ago. Home birth, went well, no drugs. Babe did not want to nurse at birth or for first 2.5 days. On third day started tube finger feeding. Went very well, gradually switched over to exclusive breast feeding with lots of support. During this period of two weeks of transition and learning, babe was tense, mom took babe to craniosacral therapy, seemed to work somewhat. Also, baby had a tongue-tie which was corrected as well. For the past three weeks though, babe does not want to nurse until asleep or very, very relaxed. Dad has to bounce with babe on the exercise ball until babe is asleep before mom can even offer the breast. This is very exhausting for all and limiting for going out. When baby is relaxed and asleep, she takes the breast well and drinks well. But any other time, forget it, crying, pulling away, doesn't want to go near the breast. She is not arching, but does pull on her ear when she's not sleeping. When baby is awake, she is happy, not ear pulling or tense. Very interactive. For feedings, I've suggested motion, baths, lying down, different positions, mom on exercise ball feeding, dim lighting, etc. etc. None work. Mom has had baby's ear checked, looks good she's told. I still think there is some sort of tension with baby that's causing this frustration with feeding. Also, dad has allergies, and we've talked about that too. But mom doesn't believe this is the case. Any input would be great as to help this mom. She is very dedicated, and exhausted.
Warmly
Stacy Pavlov
