Karen,
WIC is an acronym for women-infants-children.  It is a government sponsored 
supplemental nutrition program for low income women and children with some 
parameters defined by the individual states that the programs operate in. 
Many WIC programs have instituted a breastfeeding peer counselor program 
where women who have been or currently are WIC program participants are 
available to help WIC breastfeeding mothers.  WIC peer counselors also 
either have been or currently are breastfeeding moms.  Their personal good 
experiences with breastfeeding have sparked a desire to help other 
breastfeeding moms.
