Hello,

When I started out working in lactation education (around 2000), I was in
California and used to pass out magnets w/tips to reduce SIDS, the last tip
being "Breastfeed Your Baby".

So, recently, I was dismayed that ___BREASTFEEDING HAS BEEN TAKEN OFF THE
LIST OF RECOMMENDATIONS___ of How to Reduce SIDS, both in the National BACK
TO SLEEP CAMPAIGN, and on the CA website.

I remember at that time the formula d/c bags had hang tags w/ tips to reduce
SIDS, and they did not have BF on the list (the website that they partnered
with at the time DID have BF as a strategy).

Recently, I ordered a ton of free SIDS stuff from the national campaign, and
didn't notice breastfeeding mentioned anywhere.
It seems that an AAP task force feels that there is insufficient evidence to
recommend BF as a strategy to reduce SIDS.

Sincerely,
Renee Mercier RN IBCLC
