Hi Mary,
I can't tell you definitively whether or not the cream could get into the
milk or not although I do think it's unlikely. I still don't think it's a good
idea (tempting though it is) to use a Ben-Gay type cream on the breast.
Theres's too much chance of the cream ending up where it doesn't belong -mom's
areolae and nipples and thus the baby's mouth, or baby's or mom's eyes. These
creams tend to be almost impossible to wash off completely and it only takes the
barest smidgen to irritate a sensitive area. I've rubbed Ben-Gay on sore
muscles or joints, washed my hands thoroughly, and had my eyes burn when I
adjusted my glasses a while later. The liniments in stick form (eg, Icy Hot Stick)
do pretty much avoid getting the stuff on your hands, but they still smear
and can heat up places you don't mean to heat up. Yeah, I've had personal
experience with stick liniment on sore knees and running shorts.
Hope this helps.
Warmly,
Carol Kelley LLLL
