Hi, Christine:  I, too, was at the ILCA conference and even tho I have 
heard Nils Bergman speak several times now, it is always refreshing to hear 
how life is supposed to be.  The reason he has 28 weekers breathing room 
air and nursing at the breast is because he works with moms/babies who are 
birthing the way Mother Nature intended.  I suspect he would have similar 
experiences to the rest of us if he worked in the typical birthing 
environment most of the rest of us find ourselves in.  But...Kangaroo Care 
does indeed work, even in the typical hospital birth environment.  We are 
doing it in our hospital - yesterday we did 6 inductions and a scheduled C-
section.  How's that for "normal" birthing practice?!  But yet, we still 
manage to have a pretty high number of moms and babies who manage to eke 
out a good start to breastfeeding even under these conditions.  I was 
heartened to get a comment from a dad this week who told me that if it were 
not for my help/support with their first baby, they would have been a 
bottlefeeding family.  They were in this week with baby number 2 and said 
they did notice more nurses encouraging Kangaroo Care than 2 years ago with 
baby number 1, for which they were grateful.
Overall, conference very good.
