Pam asks,
<<Makes me wonder if we all gave birth in the way that Mother Nature
intended, if it is indeed "normal" to expereince an abundant milk supply in
less than 24 hours. Has anyone else had expereince with this?>>

I asked that question of the midwife when we did our postpartum visits
yesterday. Her experience (over 400 home births) is that milk comes in by 72
hours.

What I noticed is that we don't see the drop in weight that is common
otherwise.

Baby A, born 3 weeks ago, left the hospital down 5 ounces in 2 days. Baby B,
born at home 13 days ago, has gained 24 ounces. Baby C, born at home 3 days
ago, has gained 3 ounces.

All three women were/are determined to breastfeed, but the first had to
fight through routines, nursery visits and critical people. Now that the
first mother is home, baby is gaining better.

Best wishes,
Heather "Sam" Doak
