FAO Schwarz handled the matter correctly from the start. They held an
employee training and sent additional memos to remind all employees of
the law and reiterated that moms should be able to bf anywhere in the
store. They had been directing moms who *asked* for a private place to
bf to the restrooms, but had not realized the inappropriateness of
anyone breastfeeding in a restroom. They immediately "got it" when the
vulnerability of young children to germs was explained in all your letters.
Their manager called me yesterday (I'm VP of our local ILCA affilliate)
to make sure that their actions were satisfactory. He even mentioned
that he was happy that they handled the situation the way they did, in
light of the nurse-in at ABC!
Many people are still talking about the nurse-in here in the city.
Several people have asked my husband about it (knowing what I do for a
living), and they do seem to understand that women should be able to bf
anywhere without a hassle. The change is happening.
