Quoting Lawrence - "The several forms can be distinguished by genetic 
testing, but except for the very mild form, the infant must be weaned to a 
lactose-free diet."  Sounds like this baby MAY have the less severe form 
(since she didn't have any obvious illness - persistent jaundice, vomiting, 
diarrhea, electrolyte imbalance, cerebral signs and weight loss) , but she 
needs guidance from her specialist!
Galactosemia is THE one not to take chances with.  Pat in SNJ
