,We are concerned with this diagnosis and the implications of such. Is thi=

even possible in a baby with supposed normal neurological status?=20
Shouldn't a normal infant struggle with suffocation? What factor could th=

epidural or the blanket have played in this tragic event?
YES! A normal infant SHOULD struggle with suffocation. I had 32.5 week
gestation twins. They came home at 2 weeks of age and 4 weeks. About 2 weeks
after, I was grocery shopping. THe bigger, healthier, stronger twin was in
the sling nursing. I was a frazzled mom struggling with 4 children under 4
at the grocery store. Well, I never noticed when C stopped nursing. I went
to move him at teh register, just a few minutes after he had started nursing
and got no response. There happened to be a NICU NURSE! in front of me in
line. SHe got him back and he was fine. Well, after numerous tests, we found
he was having long pauses. He wasn't stopping..they were the normal pauses
we all have..but his were very frequent. The Dr then tests the other twin
and sure enough, same thing. She made it VERY clear to me that a normal baby
would have struggled at the breast ..she thinks he gulped..maybe and then
just didn't pick back up breathing.
makes me wonder if this baby wouldn't have been found later to have apnea or
something similar.. My babies ended up on monitors. We never had a real
alarm and they grew out of it. Was just due to their prematurity.
