I probably would have made a mess of it if I were actually there, but
from this remove, I would think about the Best Start 3 step counseling
strategy.
1. Affirm the mother - "many moms feel like the baby is bf all the time.
Let's see your feeding log".
2. try to get to her real concerns by asking open ended questions,
affirm her real concerns "many moms are concerned that they might not be
making enough milk".
3. then educate her. "Let me tell you how to increase your milk, and how
to tell that baby is getting enough".
It can also help to come up with someone who is also Columbian (an IBCLC
or LLLL) who can be a support for mom.
I'm starting to learn to step back when I feel like a client has a brick
wall up, and start affirming and exploring her concerns. Practice does
make perfect!
