A trip to a rheumatologist might be wise. Some women do experience a
postpartum flare of arthritis, and it may be the beginning of a long trek.
Ruth Lawrence (Breastfeeding: A guide for the med profession p589+ of 6th
edition) has good info. Tho your mom may not have tested positive for
rheumatoid arthritis she still may have a close cousin, and otc nsaids will
help her sx + compatible with bfdg

ITA with this, I also would check into a possibility of fibromyalgia. Even
if no prior history exists, fibromyalgia can rear its ugly head after any
traumatic event (labor and delivery is considered traumatic in the physical
aspect). My dh suffers both with RA and with Fibromyalgia (both conditions
largely seen in the female population go figure) I have seen first hand the
symptoms she describes. Unfortunately (at least with him) Nsaids do not do
anything to help. Be sure to tell her to get a rheumatologist that actually
"believes" in fibromyalgia, many doctors do not. Of course your client should not
stop breastfeeding. Especially since even if she stops, the chances of the
symptoms going away are slim.
