Hi,

I just received a call from a mom with a lump by nipple that won't go
away. Her story starts out typical. Baby 6 months, breastfeeding well-no
problems except oversupply that she has managed well. She woke up with a
lump on her right breast, under areola, and close to nipple. She
experienced burning pain and the area was slightly swollen. She treated
for plugged duct and the pain and swelling went away after a few days, but
the lump remained. It has been 2 weeks now. This is the part I am unsure
about. The lump is about pea size , but more firm. It is under the skin
and does not seem to be associated with Montgomery glands. She can squeeze
it and it does not hurt at all. She says it feels like a cyst. She does
not have a fever or any other symptoms. What surprises me is that it does
not hurt at all. Can you have an infection with no pain? I referred her to
her OB doctor, but I asked her if I could post her case on Lactnet in case
we needed more info. and she said it was fine to do so. Thank you.
