"When she learns to look to her baby for the answers,
the confusion disappears."
Just had to say- I love this comment and I have seen
this so many times at the bedside- its so important to
foster and support the mother's instincts FIRST and
then give her info and advice on lactation as needed
after supporting her in her instincts.
I have seen so many mothers who are so "divorced" from
their infants. They are totally overwhelmed with the
shoulds and the musts and pressures from
family/friends/nurses- that their baby gets lumped in
with "the others."
when a mom and baby are a "couple" and its them
together working through the issue- whatever it is
feeding or anything- it usually works out for the
better- because at any rate a more confident intuitive
mom will grow into her role and seek out whats best
for baby via her instincts.
skin to skin practically guarantees instinctive
behaviors in mother/baby- I am now recommending it to
everyone-bottlers too!
and I am working on an inservice for our nurses on
Skin-to-Skin.
