I felt the need to post how I responded to Schram below:

Dear Mr. Schram:

Obviously, you don’t have children. Or, if you do, they were not
breastfed. I can understand your unwillingness to accept that a baby’s
need to eat is greater than a man’s (or woman’s) feeling of discomfort to
have to watch such a grotesque display of immodesty. You don’t seem to be
enlightened about the benefits of breastfeeding. You should do a bit more
reading before you make such offhanded remarks. It made you look foolish
and uninformed.

If you have a child, I would like to ask you a question. Do you want
what’s best for your child? It’s a simple enough question and if you
answer as any normal parent would answer, you would say, “Absolutely,
yes!” Well, enlightened parents have learned that breastmilk is
incomparable to formula. Assuming that a baby milk substitute such as
formula and breastmilk are the same is as insane as assuming that Sunny
Delight is the same as fresh squeezed orange juice. They may look, smell,
and even taste the same and each have caloric value, but a calorie is not
a calorie when it comes to nutrition. Even you should be able to
understand that. Could I ask you to take a leap of faith and admit that
infant nutrition is even more important?

Today’s mothers are so tired of being expected to meet everyone else’s
needs. We must earn a good living, keep a clean house, volunteer at the
schools, enroll our children in extracurricular activities, have great
bodies, and nourish our families. Any time anyone makes this
insurmountable task more difficult, you will get a response. Being forced
to pump milk before going out in public or searching for a private place
to breastfeed a hungry baby definitely makes life more difficult for a
breastfeeding mother. So please open up your dirty little mind, learn
about the benefits of breastfeeding, witness the beauty of a mother
nourishing her child with milk from her own body and never, never, ever
compare such a beautiful act to urinating. Shame on you, Mr. Schram.
Shame on you.

P.S.: Mothers usually nurse their babies on airplanes to help with the
pressure changes in the babies’ ears. It prevents earaches and a lot of
crying—another annoying thing babies tend to do.
