Hi friends,
I happen to work at Mary Birch Hospital's breastfeeding boutique.
Yesterday, many moms called in to our breastfeeding warm-line to ask
questions about the pacifier issue. They kept quoting the studies, and as
all predicted, they couldn't get past the part that a "pacifier prevents
SIDS". That's all they got out of the article. It saddened me, but I did
try to (as gingerly as possible) quote much of Dr. L. Gartner's sleep
studies about the breastfed baby. The moms felt much better. I think they
did start feeling guilty as if they were putting their babies at risk.
What is it about our culture that is so disgusted by the mere act of
breastfeeding?
