There is a much needed role for nipple shields and I, too, have had the 
occasional client who has breastfed her baby for many months using a shield 
due to specific problems.
However I have seen heaps and heaps more clients who are on the verge of 
giving up, whose babies are failing to thrive, who have had breastfeeding 
jeopardised by the inappropriate use of nipple shields.
Let's keep this discussion balanced.
