Quick question. Does anybody know the comparitive half life in neonates
=
of the various narcotics used in labour.
Mary Kroeger's book, Impact of Birthing Practices on Breastfeeding,2004
states: "the half-life of pethidine is 3-4.5 hours in the mother and as
long as 13-23 hours in the newborn, with some of the metabolites remaining
in the newborn's system even longer."
I have read elsewhere that it can be detected up to 6 months,in the
infant, but can't remember where I saw that, so can;t quote that.
