As I understand it, breastfeeding is protected in New York City by law - in fact it is protected in all
of New York State. I am going to call FAO Schwartz today, explain that I have a large number of
prospective parents that come for prenatal breastfeeding classes and there is an even larger
number who attend the birthing class that I will inform about their policy and that one of the
mothers at my sons kindergarten is also an editor of the the New York Times. If they do not
change their policy, which in fact is illegal, I will let all of the parents in these classes know not to
shop at their store because they think it is fine to eat in the bathroom and that the Times Metro
section might be interested in a story on how this might affect their business practices when large
numbers of parents whose children are being nursed discover that their store thinks it is fine to
make babies eat in the bathroom.

Susan E. Burger, MHS, PhD, IBCLC

I can't believe it - this is NYC where people do weird things in public all the time and no one bats
and eyelash!
