Dear Friends:
This course is wonderful for anyone working with breastfeeding. I am one
of the 8 faculty that teach this course; our participants include lay or
peer counselors, nutritionists and dieticians, nurses, midwives, physicians,
nurse practitioners, and physician assistants.
The course is covers a broad range of topics; besides a focus on
counseling skills and practice, there is emphasis on collaboration, evidence-based
practice, and ways to protect, promote and support breastfeeding. According to
the WHO, this course is equivalent in preparation to that of the other
credentialed breastfeeding helpers: LLL, IBCLC, CLE, NMC, etc. 45 continuing
education credits are offered, which at present is enough to meet a requirement for
the IBLCE exam.
There are many different ways to earn certification for work with
breastfeeding; this is one of several.
warmly,
Nikki Lee RN, MS, Mother of 2, IBCLC, CCE
