From a recent lecture by Helen Ball I remember 47% of UK parents 
cosleep at a time in the first month of life. That would fit nicely 
with the sad number of 47% of unexplained deaths while co-sleeping. 
Further, I think quite a number of incidental co-sleepers co-sleep 
that night because baby wasn't doing to well, so there may be an 
explanation for the cot death if researchers would only know where to 
start looking for.

I know of Dutch research into co-sleeping where quite unfair 
comparisons are made, relatively safe cot-sleeping (with all known 
precautions) is compared with very unsafe co-sleeping (on a soft 
sofa, smoking parents, duvet, etc., etc.).
