I saw a mom today whose baby is 3 weeks old and not back to birth weight
yet. This poor mom hemorraghed at 1 week post-partum and ended up having to
have a D&C, uterine sonogram and MRi. She is still bleeding heavily. The
Docs in emergency determined that there is still "something" in her uterus,
but they believe it is vascular (blood fed) so they won't or can't do
anything else for her short of a hystorectomy. Needless to say she has a
low milk supply and her poor little baby has not been getting enough milk.
Of course we have started her supplementing, pumping, taking herbal
galactogouges, and eating lactogenic foods. But with a mass in her uterus
her body hasn't gotten the hormonal message to make milk, and I doubt that
these will really help. I am wondering if anyone has had esperience with a
situation like this and has any suggestions to offer. I am worried about
this mom. She is extremely tired, the iron pills are making her constipated
and her bottom is sore. She continues to pass golf ball sized clots. After
pumping she bleeds heavily. Any ideas- remedies??
