I agree that the name of this is appalling, and can't really imagine a
mother deciding to call it that. I wonder if the creators' husbands came up
with it. I also agree that using something like that is like waving a red
flag and saying "look everyone, I am going to nurse my baby". In general, I
wouldn't use it, although it might have been helpful for me in the early
days with each of my adopted babies, especially on planes, bringing them
home. It took a little while to be able to get a new baby latched on
correctly with the Lact-Aid, without having things exposed but, after that,
we had no trouble getting started without having to be exposed.

I guess if this makes some moms feel comfortable enough to breastfeed in
public, when they might use a bottle, otherwise, it might help some babies
bf longer, but also have concerns about its use supporting the idea that
moms need to hide to breastfeed, as well as promoting the myth that moms
have to expose their breasts to bf. Also, with $5 worth of materials and a
half hour, even novice seamstresses should be able to make their own. I
would feel better about this product if they would change the name and
reduce the price.
