Yesterday the minister gave a sermon on "mothers". He discussed the infant
in the old testament who the mother said she would bring to the temple when he
was weaned which would be about 3 yrs of age ( his words). He then discussed
how mothers are the center of a child's wellbeing and world. He began by
defining the role of the ubilical cord, and then when the cord is cut, the baby
immediately has to go to the breast for nourishment or he will die since the
cord has been cut. He said God had a purpose and a plan to feed that baby
immediately after the cord is cut. He talked about how the mother is the center of
the child's life until he goes to school at 6 or 7 and that is when children
start recognizing a world apart from mom, but even as adults we still need to be
nutured in mother's arms. I thought it was neat to have 2 references to
breastfeeding in a small southern baptist church!
