In my practice, I try to educate mothers about how breastfeeding works,
so they can find their way with their own baby.
Dear Friends:
An easy way to assist a mother to resolve confusion is to get her to
listen to the one true expert in her life..........the BABY! (yes, shouting!)
All the different nurses, her mother, her mother-in-law, the TV, the
pediatrician: each puts in their own oar and tries to steer the canoe. The
result is a confused mother, distant from her baby.
Tell moms not even to believe You; only listen to the baby and confusion
disappears! (And only as long as baby is phyically close to her heart.) She
only needs this intense closeness until breastfeeding is well established,
which can be the end of the first week. Then, she doesn't have to think any
more.
